So I've been raising a flock of what I thought to be all hens for 6 months, and now I'm starting to have doubts about my White Cochin. He/she is a lot bigger than the rest of my hens (I understand they're all different breeds but he/she is pretty massive), has started crowing in the mornings to my neighbors and my dismay, and when we checked its legs for spurs, it had nubs where I assume that they are growing in. Also, I realized that its comb came in a lot larger and faster than the others when it was a baby. So tell me, is it a hen with a gender crisis, or do I have a boy on my hands??

I'd say boy. Cochins are often slower to show their gender in a mixed flock with a single cochin but crowing at that age is a sure sign.

Agreed. If it's crowing at that age, it's a rooster. Sometimes a hen will crow, but it's almost always a hen that's more than 2 years old and has taken over the role of the rooster in a roosterless flock.

Beautiful young rooster. If I didn't live in Mud Central, I'd have a whole yard of large Cochins
