Hey y'all!! I got 2 sapphire gem chicks this past summer. I know Amethyst is a boy. His baby crows are adorable. However, I am seriously thinkin that Onyx is a hen. They're half the size of Amethyst, their comb is tiny, and they're not gettin any saddle feathers on their back or even hinting at crowing. They're making noises like my other hens, not roo noises. I swear there's a difference!! Is it possible that they got some fluke with the sex-link gene and I ended up with a hen sapphire gem that has barred feathers?? TIA!! PS I plan to get a pic durin the daylight hours tomorrow.

If it's barred it's most likely a cockerel. Did you order these from a hatchery as pullets? How old are they?
They are 15 weeks old and came from a mixed bin at Tractor Supply. I did a lot of research and apparently genetic anomalies DO happen bc they’re sex linked. Gonna go out when it’s a bit warmer and look at the shape of their feathers.
