Hen or Roo?

I was given the barred rock 6 weeks ago. 'Bette' is starting to look like 'Bob' But I truly know nothing.

Age? Appears to be female. A hen that would be laying pretty soon

I agree, looks like a hen. From what I've read, males tend to be a lot more white due to the double barring gene, but I don't understand a whole lot about that. Either way, I do think you have a hen.

Golly I hope you are right! She is right at 18 weeks and she is a hoot! She definitely "rules the roost". Thanks for the input.

Yes, you do have a hen there. @Hihamburger since barring is a sexlinked gene, females can only have one copy but males can have two.

I guess that's why I've read that males tend to be a bit lighter. And congrats on your girl, ours rule the roost too Very sweet but bossy girls!
