I have an EE and Lavendar Orpington. Both are about 6-7 weeks old now. The orpington is very calm and submissive in demeanor, the EE is a real jerk lol.

Do we think Hens or Roos? I think EE is a roo solely based on demeanor. Can you also explain which characteristics to look for to determine gender in these breeds? I've read about the pea comb for an Easter egger being 3 vs 1 is often a sign.

Thanks so much!

Your EE is a pullet, her coloration is only found in females. I don't have experience with the other breed so I can't tell you about them.
Awesome thanks!! Just a rude hen then 😂

If you have time could you elaborate more on the coloration of EEs? I think I've read that pullets tend to be more consistent/even in their color than cockerels, which tend to be more random? Is that correct? Anything else?

I'm very new to chickens and am loving learning about them, but there's soooo much to learn it's hard to filter through it all to find what im looking for! Ha

EE's in my experience, pullets will either be a solid color or even patterned, and cockerels will be uneven color, with rusty red towards the end of their wings, cockerels in general also seem to have larger legs and their stance is noticeable early on.

Your EE pullet will be stunning trust me!

I agree! The rusty red in the shoulders seems to be the most obvious sign of an EE cockerel. Yours looks like 2 of my EE pullets. Pretty consistent coloring all the way through. She's probably just higher on pecking order (or trying to be!)

Here's a pic of my EE cockerel when he was about that age to give you a better idea. He was a real jerk and isn't with us anymore.
