These are my first chicks. I have 2 Rhode Island reds, 2 black sex links and 2 astalorps (sp?) I can't figure out if this one is a roo. It's comb is developing a lot fast and it's a lot bigger than the others. They're about 4 weeks old

I must not know what I'm looking for :-/ looks like one long layer of feathers

Check the wings... its an easy way to see if they are male or female. Pullets (Female) have two rows of feathers were Cockerels (males) only have one! Hope it helps

Please note that wing sexing is not accurate with the exception of specific crosses bred to create sex linked chicks between slow feathering female parent stock and fast feathering male parent stock. It must also be done within the first three days to be accurate. This is not an accurate approach to sexing most chicks due to the fact that it is only applicable to the specific crosses.
