I would have to disagree with your suspicions. She has no saddle feathers. In fact, what should be saddle feathers are actually nice round, full feathers. Also, from what I can tell in the picture, she has round tail feathers too. Nothing about this makes me suspect Roo. =D
That is true - the feathers in that area are "hackle" feathers and, just as with saddle feathers, there are differences in structure between male and female mature birds. Here are some illustrations that might help you.Well this makes me feel better! I had read somewhere that if you look at the neck feathers and if their more pointy than rounded on the ends then it's normally a roo. Is that not so accurate information? I have 2 others like this. They came from TSC and were labelled as RIR's.
This helps a lot. I'm guessing that the bottom picture is of a hen, correct?
