Hen or rooster?

I have a 6 or 7 week old olive egger from a tractor supply store. Since this chick was 2 weeks old it would try to fly out of the brooder to sit with me. When it learned to fly it started to fly up to my shoulder and it would sit with me. I heard roosters are more friendly from an earlier age so I always kind of wondered if it was a rooster. What do you think pullet or cockerel?

I really hope its a pullet because I cant own a rooster where I live.:fl

I think it is a rooster. Hens should not start to develop their combs or wattles until they are a few weeks away from laying. Reddish coloring in the wattles or comb at this age would mean it is likely a rooster.

Olive eggers are tough because you don't know what breed went into them. If the roo was a not barred and the hen was then this is a pullet. But you don't know. And that comb is large. But maybe it came from a breed with proud combs - like my copper marans. Lift up the wing feathers for hints of red in the wing bows. That means cockerel. It's a proud comb but better pics will get you more informative feedback. Someone was nice enough to put a sticky post at the top of this forum explaining pics.

I'm not super versed in ameraucana other than usually when you see that it's really an Easter egger. Check those feathers. The boy will get proud bars on his wing bows. In another month or so saddle feathers will sprout. It is a proud comb but you need to look closer. Friendliness is not a rooster specific trait

I'm not sure what proud bars are on the wings because I'm still somewhat new to chickens. I did have a black copper Maran rooster with copper tips in his wing feathers at 5 weeks old. If thats what it means this chick does not have that. Thank you for the information.

Aha you posted while I replied. Don't get your hopes up but I think pullet. In that last pic if it's 7 weeks I'm guessing you chased it around like a paparazzi and got it a bit excited. Time will tell. Post updates!

And for reference here is my blue copper which shows wing bows. See that dark mahogany on his wings? I also show him at 8 weeks and those wing bows sprouted between 6-8 weeks. I could see them coming in when I parted his feathers.

Edit: for your reference he is 6 months old in the other pic. They get big big combs and frostbite steals their points.

I walked up to him/ her and he/she stood there and started posing for the camera lol.

I will try to seperate the feathers to see if I see any of those colors coming in and I will post more pictures in a week or two.

Those pictures were very helpful. He is a beautiful rooster. I wish I could keep one where I live. I love roosters :love
