Hi guys,
My brothers got the kids two new chickens for Christmas. I don’t know how old they are but I’m concerned one may be a rooster. We have had this issue before and kids where upset when we had to rehome it. So just looking for a some opinions/ thanks
First few pics it was when we first got it

My guess is they're probably about 5 - 7 weeks old. Unfortunately I think they both look like cockerels to me.

We had them since Christmas Day and I think the age is probably right.
Obviously they aren’t the same breed so at first I thought maybe the black one was just older then the other one but with every day I think it’s a cockerel. I didn’t question the light one though it was a pullet. This is why I didn’t want little chicks cause the kids get upset as we can’t keep roosters in my area

Looks like a girl to me.

That's sad...sorry to hear that. It's difficult to part with cockerels especially when kids are involved. My friend is fighting really hard to get the local council to amend the bylays to allow her to keep her roosters but it's like trying to push a mountain.. it's almost impossible. I also wish the ordinances would change. Many dogs are far louder than roos and with a roo collar properly fitted on (I know this is a controversial topic so apologies for those who are offended) the noise level is very very greatly reduced and the roos can still lead an extended life without heading to the stock pot. A good roo is a wonderful chicken.. I prefer them more than my hens!

Well I think what you can do is keep them till they at least start crowing. I think @TheOddOneOut and @Overo Mare may be right in that at least one is female.
