It’s hard to get a good photo. My step-daughter is exuded two baby chicks in her high school bathroom yesterday. One was injured and died last night. The second is thriving…we have named it Jujubee. However, I’m nervous it’s a rooster - I already have 10 at the house - wild. Including wild hens who are laying for me. Any chance to tell from its beak if it’s male or female? At the end of its beak it looks a little pointed down and whiter than the rest - almost like it’s chipped but not. Further up the beak in between its eyes it has a rough raised edge…the baby chick can’t be more than a week. Thanks for any help! I’ll try to get better photos.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Cute chick! ❤ As the others have said above, it's too early to tell the gender. Once it grows more features in a couple of months, either male or female, you will be able to tell.

Best wishes!

Hi Do you have any other chicks? If not please consider getting another chick or 2 since chickens are flock animals and do much better with other birds. In the meantime add a mirror and a small stuffed animal so it doesn't feel quite so alone. You may have heard of Chicks that were just hatched being sexed. There is a way that hatcheries and other people are trained to check, but if not done correctly it could easily injure the chick, so most BYC owners including myself don't try.
