I am curious if anyone can tell me at what age can you tell what sex your chick is. I purchased 8 chicks from my local feed store and need to know what to look for?...I've read that the thickness of the legs is a consideration and the feather growth rate could also be a consideration? All my chicks are very sweet and friendly, there isn't an aggressive one in the bunch. Any personality traits I can look for?....Any information anyone has on the subject would be so helpful..... I have 2 barred rock plymouths, 2 jersey giants and 4 brahmas. I have a min of 2 each and look so hard to see any differences and I don't see any:( Thanks!

usually you can get a pretty good idea of their gender by 6-8weeks of age when their feathers are fully formed and they are almost finished with growing up.

at that point the coloring and size of the comb and waddles is the easies way to tell. Males will have deeper red coloring and larger more promonent combs and waddles.

Thank you:) I was reading on the different ways to sex chicks on this site and lol.....put all my babies on their backs to see if they would struggle and all but 1 just laid there....lol Will be interesting to see....not going to try any of the other little tests....time will tell:) Because I am new at this....how many roosters can you have in with your hens? What is the norm?
