hen or rooster?

You can easily keep a rooster with your hens without having tons of chicks. Hens will lay eggs with or without a rooster; the only difference if they are living with a rooster is that the eggs will probably be fertile. As long as you gather the eggs daily, you won't notice any difference with how the eggs taste or look, and there won't be any chance of the eggs hatching. In order for fertile eggs to develop, a hen (or incubator) has to maintain favorable incubation conditions for the eggs for at least a few hours. Favorable incubation conditions are not found in a refrigerator, or even on the counter-top.

You have a roo and pullet! They are gorgeous. Eggs must be incubated either artificially or by a hen in order to hatch. Look up 'broody' to know the signs and find ways to break them if you don't want chicks.
