Beautiful hen! I think you are doing all the right things. Is she still near the flock, but separate so she can't get pecked on anymore? Do you know why she might've suddenly gotten attacked?

Terramycin eye ointment would be the best to use a couple or few times a day or any other ophthalmic eye ointment (it sounds like you used some). Is she still eating and drinking?

Thanks for the support. Yes, she's isolated but with the flock. I only discovered it this evening, so not sure about the food etc, but will check it out tomorrow. Poor little thing. She's only 8 months old.

I put some more betadine around her eyes and comb, and some exocin drops on her eyes. She's not eaten yet. Just hanging out, listening. The bottom pic is her sister's eye, which shows what hers should look like.

Very happy to report that yesterday one of her eyes opened, and today the scab came off the other eye and she appears to have 2 good eyes.
I have been placing her on the edge of the birdbath or food bowl and gently pushing her head down so she could find the water or the food, as her eyes were sealed shut. I really thought that might be her lot, and was concerned about whether or not she should be euthanized....and not wanting to make that decision! My husband said wait a bit, and I'm so thrilled I did. It's taken 7 days, but it has all worked out, and I've learned a lot. Praise God!

So glad that your hen is surviving. A warm wet compress held onto the eye while holding them is a good way to help keep the eyes open when this type of injury. Then applying an antibiotic ointment such as Terramycin, Neosporin, or ciprofloxacin 2-3 times a day is good. Then physically feeding some watery chicken feed and egg several times a day while they are without sight, can keep them alive until swelling goes down.
Do you know if she was pecked because she was new, or if there is a bully? Hopefully, this doesn’t happen again. Reintroducing her with a wire dog crate with food and water would be helpful.

She isn't new. She hatched out here, and is about 8 months old. No idea why they suddenly attacked her. I have actually kept her with the flock because she seemed happier that way. Just caged her in the coop at night and kept a close eye during the day. I've seen a couple of them try to chase her from the food, but nothing else. It is most peculiar. Thanks, will try the compress.
