Hen picking up leaves and placing them on her back- hmmm... like a decorator crab! Ha!

I just saw my Buff Orp strolling through the Ivy and as she was going along she was picking up dead leaves and placing them on her back. Of course the leaves just fell right off, but I had never seen her do this before- so funny. Then I had a closer look and she had apparently just laid an egg in the Ivy. I guess she was 'trying' to hide where it was?? But she wasn't covering up the egg... she was going along "Hansel & Gretel" style and *placing* the leaves on her back. Ha!

Anyone ever see their hen do this before? What is she up to?

She's going broody. She thinks if she covers herself with stuff then predators can't see her while she sits an egg.

I also have 3 BO and I have one that while she is in her nest box she is constantly throwing the straw over her back. She is the only one that does that.... no idea why. She is entertaining... either me or herself, not sure which.

Mine do this guess their trying to camouflage themselves.
