hen putting bedding on back while laying

Its a former battery chick, which i rescued about six months ago.. breed is isa brown sex link, so I highly doubt due to those two factors she she would be going broody. She was throwing bedding on her back as she was in nesting box with herbeak throwing pieces of bedding on her back.
Same bedding that I've always used plus no sicknesses or different behavior besides this. Any ideas?lol

Mine do that sometimes. I use pine shavings and they move some pieces one at a time till it's just right.
Then leave without laying an egg. LOL

Keep an eye if she doesn't lay egg for a few days. If that's not her norm (as a battery hen I would think shes pretty regular) then check if she's egg bound.

I think she's just being picky.

Most all hens do the "crap on the back" ritual. The closest thing I've found to explain it is it's a leftover camouflage instict left over from when they were jungle fowl.

Mine do it too....Normal...My one Big Orpington does that when dust bathing too...pine needles and sticks on her Back then she sprawls out like road kill....
