Here's an example.

The idea is that they protect the back of a hen when a rooster has mounted her, to prevent feather loss and injury. Does anybody actually use these?

I have three hens in saddles. Two because they are the roo's favorite hens and he was taking his toll on their backs and one because she's molting and getting new tailfeathers in and her and the other chooks wouldn't leave the feathers alone to grow in. I made hers extra long in the back so it covers the tail feathers.

I have a bunch of the younger hens in saddles still. I swear the boys know which girls are laying the most and target them.
