I just clicked on the ad on this website and am now worried are my roosters going to cut and hurt the hens I noticed the silki roo grabing an feather or 2 on the hens heads. In with the banties, is the other roo funkey who is an Rhode Island Red He could really hurt them but dosen't behave the way the other one dose. Those hen savers are expensive! Is this anything to worry about or not?
My girls a get ripped by the big boys, so I use hen savers/saddles/aprons. The design is quite simple, though, and I'm sure that they could be made quite easily from a strong material.
you can get them on ebay for under $5. Do a search for chicken apron or chicken saddle, there are a couple of people who make them, one is a BYC member, you can get 4 aprons for $10.75 plus $1.75 shipping. She is great to deal with
