hen scared of me

hello! i posted a while back about my hen, leela. she’s healing well after the attack, but is absolutely terrified of me now! she’s always been the most affectionate and tame chicken ever everytime i move towards her, she does the hen squat (?) which she’s never done before, and when i picked her up today she started shaking. i’m worried that she’s not going to fully heal mentally from this. any tips? she’s staying inside right now, because too much movement was opening her wounds back up.

Chickens are prey animals, it takes a lot for them to not see people as threats. she's still a little touchy so just avoid picking her up. Sit on the ground and have her come to you, talk to her. Treats in moderation will help.

You need to work up her trust with you now. After a frighting experience like that, most animals will not trust anyone for a while. When your around her, move carefully to not startle her.
