Hen Show!

Put down your Hen's name, date of birth (or age if you don't know), breed, and a short little story about how you found them, their coopmates, and why you entered them in the contest.

IT MUST BE A HEN! (I think roosters have an advantage because they are so handsome...)

Contest ends Janurary 7th! I will give the winner sometime between the 7-14th.

The winner wins... uh... A picture of my chicken!

May the best hen win!

Hi! This is Kira! She was born May 15, 2018. Her coopmates are Helen, Plecka (I didn’t name her), Scooter, Ruby, Cleo Patra, and her sister Amber who is also a NN.
She is I believe a Jersey Giant Naked Neck mix. I bought her as a baby chick with her 7 other siblings. I chose her because, it was kind of boring to just have normal looking chickens. So, I got two naked necks. One was named Amber. She is very loud! She screams like a police siren! But, my Kira is a sweet well tempered chicken. Then, I got Ruby and Cleo Patra a week after. I got them at my local pet store Kahoots. She also lays large brown eggs. I chose to put her in the contest because, I believe she is a truly beautiful hen and is one of my sweetest. She has quite a personality though. Thanks!

This is Dolly, a 9 month old Bielefelder pullet.

She is in a breeder flock with her sister's, Molly and Polly, and their rooster, Graves.

The first time I saw Bielefelder's I fell in love. I knew I had to have them. As luck would have it, I had a Bielefelder in driving distance. I bought the three girls but had to wait for a cockerel so he was free.

I entered her because I think she's a great example of the breed. I think she looks like a sunset. Few people know about Bielefelders so it's always fun to share about them.

I need to bend the rules.
I don't name my birds.
Roughly 7-8 month old Partridge Orpington who shares the coop with 11 other no name personalities. I purchased her from a lady off of Craigslist who hatches chicks with her daughter as a hobby they like to do together.

This is Spike, a black Cochin. She lives with 10 others and her buddy Loretta the Partridge Cochin. She also has to deal with 5 ducks. We got her at 2 days old from Murray Mcmurray. The basic way of deciding is every year my siblings and I look through the catalog, I really like Cochins so I chose two of them. We got them later in the summer because we had to work out a way to get enough chickens and the breeds we wanted. So we got her the beginning of June.
I chose to enter her into the contests because of three things. One, she once got attacked by a bobcat and lived, but hated us for the longest time then one day when we had to get rid of the older chickens she loved us! Second, she is one of the sweetest chickens we have, in the morning she waits in the doorway for me to come see her (like in the photo). Third, I love Cochins! They are (to me) one of the best breeds of chickens, they are gentle, friendly, and very patient with kids.
