I've got a bantam cochin hen that is just over a year old and is extremely pale in the face. She just kind of stands in one place looking around. She looked fine yesterday when I saw her but to day she is keeping head down eyes closed alot and appears to have lost a considerable amount of weight. Please help. I'm 45 minutes away from the nearest farm supply store. I'm really worried because I lost a rooster not even a month ago. He started acting the same way and he didn't make 2 days after he started looking like this. None of my other birds are showing any signs of being sick just her. What can I do?

When did you last treat them for lice/mites?

When were they last wormed?

Either of the above could be a reason as to why this is happening - please let us know as soon as possible so that at least we can eliminate some of the reasons.

she might have cocci! you need to isolate just in case, and get a prescription from you vet!
Treatment for coccidiosis does not require a prescription in the US. The preferred treatment of poultry owners is Corid (amprolium) or the less effective Sulmet. You can get both without a prescription.

Could not tell you the last time I had them wormed. As for treating for lice and mites a few months ago.
Please don't tell me that you used DE to treat them... Mites can and do kill birds and they should be dusted with a poultry dust, IMNSHO. For worming, I use Safeguard for Goats/Cattle at the rate of 50mg/kg ( .5cc/kg) by mouth and repeat in ten days.

I just treated that pen with sulmet a few weeks back. A few of the younger birds had Fowl Pox.

DE? Not sure what that is. I'm guessing I can get safeguard at TSC?
