Hen sitting on eggs, day 21

Hello, I am a new member and would like some input.
Our Silky hen has been sitting on eggs for 21 days now and I have never seen her get off of them in all of this time--- this evening I saw that she was off of them for at least a half an hour, maybe longer, she was very awake and rolling in the dirt and eating. ----- she ended up back on the eggs---I am concerned because it is day 21 and thought she had given up! Do you think that the eggs are okay?

Have you candled them at any point? Give her another day or two, or if she'll let you, candle them (quickly, and at night). They might be duds...

yes -- we only candled one and here is a chick--- as of this morning she is still sitting and as you say, she is working hard, I am a nervous wreck over this, thank you for your replies!

Yes, we got one baby Saturday morning! very exciting and we were so surprised, thinking it was not going to happen. Two eggs were duds for sure and we removed them. there are still three under the mom and the darling babe. We will be getting rid of the rooster soon, this is all too stressful for me----- if we have just this one, we are happy. Thank you.

Hello again-- We are happy with our one darling baby--- we introduced 4 other "store bought chicks" to the mother and baby and all are doing well -- she is a terrific mom. When we finally looked at the eggs left they were duds. Thank you for this website and the support.
