this may be a stupid question . but, can someone give some advice. i have a hen that has been sitting on some eggs another hen was going in an laying in her nest. will she sit on these eggs till she hatches them all out or just the ones that she orginally was sitting on. hope this makes sense. thanks for any advice.

She will try and hatch them all out. If you can, take her and the nest with whatever eggs you want her sitting and move them to a seperate coop. I too am having this problem, but I dont have the space to move my broody somewhere else. So what Ive done is mark the eggs I want her sitting on with two "X" 's. Once with a pencil and the other with a blue pen. That way whenever she leaves the nest to go do her business I take the other ones out.

good advice, I was just looking to post same question, in a seven hole set up they all want to lay in this one nest, I am moving all the other hens in with my other group till the broody gal gets herself and these new eggs hatched, then again I could just build another pen:D

Yes, as the others has stated be sure to move the hen to another place alone.. I left a hen back in March in with the rest of the birds, and what a mess it turned out to be..

thanks everybody, i've moved here in another pen. we built a nursery condo for the spoiled chickens. but, i put all the eggs under her. so, i defeinitely need to take some eggs out from under her. she's sitting on 14.

moved the other 8 into the big outdoor run leaving her in the smaller pen this one will be the broody pen!!

just a small tip in my experience, if your gonna wrangle chickens, late evening is the best time, you can just pick them up of the perch and they dont get toooo excited, and keeps the cakling freak out to a bare minimum.

Now I am wanting a few more to go broody:D
