One of my two hens has recently starting sleeping (and therefore pooping) in one of the nest boxes. I checked her as best I could (she’s got serious attitude) for mites and bumble foot. She and her sister appear to be in good health. I’ve blocked the nest boxes at night for about two weeks and that seems to work, but I forgot last night, and found a poopy nest box this morning. I am going to be traveling soon, and my chicken sitter only comes once a day to check food, water and to collect eggs. I would love to break Louise of this habit before I go away in about a month. Any suggestions>. Thank you!

What breed and age? How high is the roost verses the lay box? What kind of roost? A pic of your set up can help folks make their best suggestion possible.

I did face this in my new coop where the roosts aren't much higher than the lay box. :barnie

I've just been persistent about making them get out and putting them on roost. For me... anyone who won't get with the program will be re-homed or eaten. Poo eggs is a deal breaker for me. :smack

Hope they figure it out soon and your trip goes great! :fl
