hen smothered her chick

my standard cochin hen is hatching her first time and she must have sat on the first chick. It was perfect and I heard it peeping before I left for work but at lunch I found it dead. the other eggs haven't hatched yet. What should I do???? Is this normal??

Sometimes large, heavy hens with feathered feet inadvertently step on and kill chicks or break hatching eggs. It is common to use game hens or silkies to hatch the eggs of such large birds.
