My EE laid her first egg at 21 weeks exactly. She laid another egg two days later. Then nothing for a whole week.

Is this normal?

I see her sitting in the next box. And she keeps kicking out the plastic easter eggs I put in there to show her where to lay eggs. She does not like being held but I managed to scoop her up tonight and felt around her to see if she might be egg bound and I don't think so. Course, I haven't held her in months so I'm not sure what would be out of the ordinary. But she feels balanced like my other girls. I don't feel any buldges or lumps. And she's eating and drinking.

Thoughts?

How long does she stay in the box? Does she puff up and hiss or growl at you when you approach her there? If so, she could be going broody. Hens don't lay when they're broody.

I'm not sure how long she's in the box because when she hears the gate, she comes out to see if I've brought treats. No growling or hissing. Do you really think she could go broody at 22 weeks of age?

At this age she is still getting things worked out I would not worry sounds like a new layer to me.

Thanks. I was hoping that's what people would say. I would have been less nervous if she had just laid one egg. But shen she laid two, two days apart, I thought, she was on a roll.
