Hen stealing chicks?

I had a broody hatch 2 chicks about 10 days ago, and another hatched 4 yesterday. Today the first mama hen had two of the new chicks following her around and was cornering the new mama hen and trying to take the other two. I tried to separate them but she first keeps going back to collect the smaller chicks. Is this normal behavior?

It’s not unusual behavior. Some broodies imprint on their own chicks and don’t bother chicks with other broodies. Others however want to mother any chick and will try to take them away so they fight. Sometimes the two broodies work together to take care of all the chicks. They are living animals, you never know for sure what will happen.
