My japanese bantam started laying about 2 weeks ago and about 1 week ago she stopped laying i've waited a week for her to start again but she hasn't started again my old hen layed about 1 every 2 days so i know its not lay rate, she has plenty hours of daylight (i live in australia and the day are getting longer here), shes showing no sign of being sick she has 24/7 access to food with 15%+ protein, shes at the top of the pecking order, i've checked for mites and put apple cider vinegar in her water, some garlic in her food and used dust just in case she does have mites that i cant see and she wouldn't be broody since she only laid about 3 eggs. So does anyone have any idea why shes stopped laying?

Is she molting? I know once mine stop laying, it usually takes them about a month before they start laying again. Also stress can make chicken stop laying, has she gone through anything stressful right before she stopped?

Shes not molting and maybe 2 weeks before she started laying in the coop next to hers we added some brahma chicks who they quickly became friends with and i moved them in together but she stopped laying before that

So many things can affect egg production in the hen. Age, disease, diet, breed, time of year. Certain breeds are not prolific layers and will lay for a short period of time and stop. As a hen ages she will decrease production. Infections of the reproductive tract will stop egg production. When days become shorter chickens will molt and stop laying. -If the diet is lacking your hen will lay soft-shelled eggs. If your hen is eating well and is keeping her status within the flock she is probably okay. Hope this helps!
