One of my 15-month-old hens was fluffed out and straining, just before bedtime. I checked her immediately, and a small white tube was protruding from her cloaca. I let her go and watched for a minute or so - she pushed out a completely rolled-up membrane that looked like a skinny cigarette. I gently pulled it all the way out and she toddled away. I found no evidence of an impacted egg. Several days earlier, I had found just a membrane in the grass, and I figured someone had an egg lunch and left the membrane. Now I am worrying. A flock mate is in full molt, and I expect the others to follow soon. Could this be related? Can anyone advise?
