My Coop
Hello,

I was out locking up the birds and was missing one. I called for her and thankfully she answered, I found her upside down stuck between some hay bales and the wall of the coop. She’d been outside like that for I don’t know how long. She can’t walk right now as she loses her balance, but she can stand and is eating and drinking. I put probiotics in her water (didn’t have any electrolytes left) and she’s very talkative.

How do I know if her wings are broken? I think her feet are fine as she can stand in one spot and is just losing balance. Is it possible there is some neurological damage from being upside down for who knows how long??

Thank you.

Poor girl!
If her wings are tucked in tight to her back they’re probably fine; they may be a little limp because she’s exhausted! She might just be wobbly from being stuck upside down all day, I’d think that will pass after some food and rest.
I’d be more concerned about possible frostbite, keep an eye on her for the next few days. Hope she’s all right!

Thank you! That’s what I was leaning towards too.. that she’s just exhausted. She’s pretty alert but was definitely ready to sleep. I’ll see how she is in the morning. Praying everything’s fine! It wasn’t too cold out today so hopefully she doesn’t have any frostbite. She was protected from wind where she fell thankfully.

Glad that you found her in time. I found my polish hen stuck behind nest boxes against the coop wall where she had fallen once. If they can get in between or behind something and get wedged, that can be so dangerous. Many have lost a chicken under an overturned bucket or flower pot.

It’s crazy how they can do that. They do such weird things for being so smart.

I’m glad she’s alright and I’m so happy you found her quickly...I once assumed a hen had been taken by a fox, only to find her sad little skeleton two years later in a pile of scrap steel....on an egg! She sure found a quiet place to nest :(

Oh wow poor girl!! I always wonder about some of those birds that go missing what truly happened
