My hen decided she was going to kill her chick luckily I got out there in time. She had pecked it until there was some blood on its head. She had kicked it out the nest and had left it. The chick is now breathing and on the radiator with a lamp. Will a 240 watt lamp keep the chick warm enough? It doesn't seem very strong at all. It can't hold its neck up like the other chicks did, does this mean theres damage? Looking at the chick it has only been born a max of a few hours as it is still wet. The mum just tries to kill it at every opportunity. My other worry is she is sitting on another 6 eggs that are all due today. Will she try to kill them? I have another hen but she has two chicks already and also due another 4 today would she take another 6 eggs or would that be too much????????

poor little guy, id be prepared to brood the other chicks as they hatch, sometimes hens behave this way, don't know why, look up how to brood chicks its not real hard as long as they are warm but cant get too hot, good luck

Just looked at that so I have to leave the eggs with her til they hatch? Hatched chicks last year under the hen and in an incubator can't believe i sold the incubator last week! We had no trouble with the hens last year 2 light sussexs they was excellent.
