I have roughly 20 jumbo coturnix birds, all about 12 weeks old. They are all kept outdoors in a 10' x 10' x 8' covered dog kennel. Within the last few days, one of the hens has been found lying on the ground. She shuffles her feet a bit, but she is unable to get up and walk, let alone fly. When I pick her up, she seems fine physically. No signs of being egg-bound or any other deformity. Her wings and feet seem fine. She seems thinner than my other birds, which I presume means that she isn't eating much. If I place her on her feet, she falls over forward and paddles her feet for a bit. I'm thinking that she needs to graduate to the trash bin (I wouldn't want to eat her since she might have an illness, nor would I feed her to my dog for the same reason).

Any ideas?

I'd isolate and try to treat with vitamins and supportive care for a few days, then cull if you don't want to deal with medications. You might be amazed what you can fix with a good meal in a bird and some vitamin supplements.

Good luck.
