Hi :)
I recently added nesting boxes to my coop with decoy eggs. I just noticed one of my hens (that has not laid yet as far as I know) is in the nesting box and she appears to be panting. She stood up and there is an egg but I'm not sure if it is the decoy egg or a fresh egg.(since the decoy egg in the other box has been buried...) Is this panting normal? Should I be concerned?

And, she did in fact lay us an egg!!!! Could the panting have been she was upset that we found her on her nest/disturbed her privacy?

The panting was likely from the weather. She was overheating.

Seriously?!?!? I live in a desert climate, we reach as high as 110 during the summer!!!!! What will that mean for my hens?!?!? How should I prepare?!?

The panting might have been stress from her new endeavor.
Was it her first egg?
One of my pullets did some panting and sqauwking when she first started laying.
