my hen has a clearly impacted crop/sour crop so we made her vomit (did everything by the book) and she was sick three times. She still has a very large crop but the last time she was sick there was clearly something too large inside and she couldn’t get it out. This is when we noticed a pink fleshy thing hanging out of her beak.
I think it was her choanal slit - I popped it back in and she isn’t mouth breathing and she seems ok just exhausted. But I can’t find any information online on what may have happened or if it’s ok that it popped out (it was still hanging on).

It would obviously be beneficial to keep making her sick over a few days as she is still very full - however after throwing up her *insides* I can’t bring myself to do it again.

I am very worried she is hurt beyond help. Any information would be hugely appreciated.

I don’t recommend making a chicken vomit because that can cause choking to death. Giving or tube feeding water and medications or coconut oil would be best.

Do you have any pictures of the fleshy thing hanging from her beak? Chickens can have a swollen tongue which can sometimes come out of the beak. I haven’t heard of them vomiting up part of their throat, but perhaps part of her crop came up? Can you see anything inside her beak and throat?

If her crop feels hard or doughy in the early morning, I would treat for impacted crop. If it is puffy, and there is a sour or foul odor from the beak, I would treat for sour crop. Here is a good article about crop problems:

How is your chicken?

@Machupichu2021 Can you come back and give us an update?
