Hen w/ Two Week Old Chicks???

ok. i have nine 2-3 week old i got from a friend.

i was wondering if i could put the chicks under a mama hen(black silkie) at night and i was also wondering if she would except them.

or are they to big.

shes my nicest hen in my flock. she hatched chicks before and is broody rite now and since my hens arent laying(too cold) i was wondering if she would except them.

they are bantie chicks. i dont know if that matters.

she loves to be mommy but she has always hatched them not got them put under her when she was sleeping at nite.

any help would be great.

i have a brooder in case but i wanted to try this b/c it is getting warmer.

Most broodies will not except 2 week old chicks but you can try. At night put under her and see how it goes. The chicks may not except her also.

ok thanks. i did about 30 minutes ago and so far so good.
i put some food in there with her and she knows the chicks are there or something because she is clucking to them telling them she has food.
i was out there for a while to make sure she didnt peck at them and so far so good.
the chicks seem to like her as well.
if i can i will get pics of them tomarrow.

keep us updated.. i once had an orphan chick (about 3 weeks) that found a broody on eggs and sat in the nest with her all day and she loved the little chick and would get all nervous when it would get food, and when the eggs hatched they were all one big family it was too cute

i hope mine does.
i put them under her last night, and i havent been out this morning yet so we'll see.
theres nine of them.
here they are waiting in the brooder. gettin ready to go outside.

do they look 2-3 weeks to you all. i didnt think they did but i dont know. but this is when i had them inside the day i got them.
