5 month old hen flew the coop and my fathers dog picked her up genlty and came back to us and put her down... no visible damage but she wouldnt stand up .she layed on her side for a day or so.
I have given her boiled egg and electrolytes and she is starting to stand again however she cant walk right or stand for too long like a toddler. she does eat and drink and loves her yogurt. it has been about 5 days now. how long will this last does any one know? is this shock?
she stays in her own room in the house in a large covered crate and is put out side for a couple hours a day in a large open bottom cage.
Thanks in advance

What kind of dog was it? I've heard of people using certain types of dogs to herd chickens. Sounds like you were lucky.

she is some kind of lab mix ...she jumped into my dads truck when he was getting gas about 7 years ago. she keeps my nephews (twins) in a 15 foot circle if they try to leave she brushes them and makes them sit down

the only place she lets them go is in the shade or to the house.

Sounds like she's a great herder and is used to animals. I'd love to have one of those for my 4 year old to keep him from running away.

5 days is a bit long for shock. I assume you don't see any sign of a fracture. Not much you can do but what you are doing, and give her time, other than vet care. She could have a cracked or broken bone that you can't see, like her pelvis, and it could heal well enough on its own that she will be able to get around, but it could take weeks, like a couple of months.

she used to pick up my min pin when she was a puppy (now 3 lbs full grown) it was horrifying to see for the first time i came in the house and saw her head sticking out of the big girls mouth i stayed calm and i am glad i did because i would hate to scold an animal when it hadnt done anything wrong

that said i would pitty the preditor that walks onto her property!
