Hen with a pasty butt looking problem

I have some sad news,
Unfortunately the hen ( I named her marge) passed away this morning.

I still thank you all for the input. I wish the out come was different...

Very sorry about your loss of Marge. Sometimes we can save them, and sometimes we cannot. You tried. That matters, and Marge will not suffer anymore.

If it's helpful to anyone, there is some info on treating Fungal Infections on the website linked in my sig.

Also, I would not give corn syrup if a bird has any kind of yeast/fungal infection because that would feed the yeast. (Note: I would doubt that in this case that this led to her passing away, though. It seemed she had a lot of challenges she was battling with, anyway--with sores, etc.)

I'm very sorry for your loss. It looks like it was an extreme case & very hard to treat. You certainly were proactive in seeking hard-to-find info & tackling some difficult treatments.

I've found that fungal/yeast infections are very difficult to deal with as the crop often becomes pendulous. Feeding vegetables in this condition isn't a good idea. Oxine is a great sanitizer with many uses and am glad to see it mentioned on your site. Nystatin is an effective yeast medication. Preventative treatment with regular use of Probiotics (2-3 times a week), some things mixed properly in a feed ration like horseradish, garlic, oregano oil is beneficial because chickens like the taste. Whenever I use an oil like oregano or cod liver, it is only about 2% of the ration I feed.
