After waiting years to have my new flock, I feel like I just can’t do anything right. Recently, I’ve had 5 hens start to lay (yay!) and 2 quit (boo!).

Within that, 1 that is still laying, recently presented with this on her comb on Sunday August 21. She laid her usual egg that day (first picture).
This morning, I checked her (after she laid her egg again - she usually lays first first thing) and this is what it looks like (second pic).

They have not been vaccinated for fowl pox, but I do have the vaccine coming tomorrow.

The Easter eggers are 26 weeks old.

Please tell me I’m overreacting? :( she is eating, drinking, foraging, etc normally. She runs over to greet me and squats like usual lol. Thank you!

That could be a peck wound that has abscessed or a cyst. Watch for more of these, but it doesn’t look like a typical fowl pox scab. Very seldom is there only one scab from fowl pox.

So. Small update. Hen has been laying, eating, and drinking normally. Has been greeting me in her normal shrieking greeting as well. Her behavior has not changed at all. But maybe these are just popping up from being pecked by her flock mates?
