Last night when I went to lock the girls in they were all in the coop, but it was apparently early enough (and I got home late) that they came down for their evening treat.
I checked their coop and gathered eggs, then made sure they were all back in the coop. When I looked, one was standing down in the run, so I went to pick her up and she was kind of just staring into nothingness. I picked her up and went to put her in the coop, she threw a bit of a fit. I noticed then that there was a lot of liquid coming from her. It was on the ground where she was standing and on the ramp. So, I checked from the side door and she was dripping clear liquid. It was quite a bit. I went to get a better look at her, but she ran over to a wall and just stood and stared at it. Anyway, it was late and I didn’t know what to do, but I came in and searched stuff, but really found nothing that I thought fit.
I had a headlamp on, but I need a better one as this one is not bright enough to see in the coop well at night.
I had to work this morning, but they all came down when I let them out. They went to their food source and everything. I just checked on them now. Nothing is wrong. Crop is good, no extra poo on the rear. I didn’t get a close look at the bent, because we are leaving here in a bit. The area where I left her had a pretty big wet spot. Clear though.
I got only 2 eggs, was expecting at least 3.
Anyway, what should I be looking for?
The hen is a year old, molting a little. Other than that everything is fine. She’s eating and I assuming drinking. I don’t always get to see them drink.
Thanks.

@SonoranChick Thanks. I will look into it. I wasn’t sure it was vent gleet because I didn’t see a white or yellow discharge. But, I didn’t get a real good look at her vent yet.

I would wonder if she may have had an egg break inside. Can you get her drinking some fluids, and offer some wet chicken feed and a little cooked chopped egg?

Yesterday she did lay an egg as I had 3 eggs. She usually lays in the morning. I am not sure what time everyone was done since I worked all day, but all 3 of my Isa Brown’s laid yesterday. The only that hasn’t been laying up until today is my EE. She’s not laid for about 4 days now. But, she is molting and with winter daylight hours, I figure that’s not a big deal.

I just realized that I didn’t check this evening for an egg - they usually have them all laid by 2pm and I had checked at 2:30 before I left. But, I did not check tonight when I locked them in.

I didn’t mean that she’s not drinking, just that I don’t always see them drink. How would I get her to drink? When I checked them tonight, they all seemed normal.

I’m going to check her vent tomorrow. Could an egg be in there and break even though she laid earlier in the day?

I have given them egg on and off as well as plain yogurt. They got some yogurt today and I know that all 3 of the IBs had their beaks in the dish getting some. The EE hangs back until everyone is done. What would the mashed food and chopped egg do for her? I can give her some tomorrow, just wondering what I’m supposed to be looking for when she eats it?

I would just make sure that she is eating and drinking. Holding a cup of water up to her beak or dipping her beak might get her to drink. Offering egg and other treats may shiwnyou that she has a good appetite. Hens who are having problems with broken eggs inside the vent may be too sick to eat or drink. We just want to make sure that she is not having a problem. Chickens, if they have been drinking a lot of fluids, may have watery droppings.
