Hi all, I searched through and whilst I found some posts, nothing really matched what I specifically want to ask.

Hen who is a 3 year old hybrid hen - still in lay and this morning she laid a soft shell egg... she has been coughing and trouble breathing. I have been medicating ( as it is due) with flubenvent and have added some olive oil, turmeric and apple cider vinegar to try to ease her throat and also to help combat some of the bacteria ( turmeric).

Leading her to the mash which has all the above in it is a chore in itself, but besides this there is no noticeable mucus, no lesions in her crop, no diarrhea.
She is lethargic.

Any ideas how I can help her recover? I gave her three teaspoons of olive oil and gently massaged her throat this morning ( first day trying something... she has been coughing around a week already.

Hello! Can you give her a caltrate tablet? Also do you have vetrx oil? You can put that on her wattle and comb. If you can isolate her at all, a diffuser with eucalyptus and peppermint essential oil will soothe her cough.

Thank you. Where do I get castrates tablet and “ veetrx” oil and what do those products help with? Thanks,
M

Calcium caltrate, any pharmacy, wal.mart, target store would have that. Vet rx would be at a local feed store or tractor supply a chain store.

Vet rx has a blend of the essential oils I had mentioned to diffuse but with a carrier oil. It helps with inflammation and improves their breathing.
