I recently got six adult chickens, one of them is handicapped. I have named her Bonnie. Her middle toe is bent badly, pointing towards her body. I think she must have broken it and it rehealed weird. The one toe is affecting her balance and it is sad to see her hobble and fall over. I have read things on how to fix a crooked toe for a baby bird. I have tried splinting her toe, and making a sandal type bandage, but it doesn't seem to keep her tor straight and just makes her uncomfortable. Any suggestions?
Thanks

When the bones have calcified, it is a little too late to fix crooked toes. It has to be done when they are very young chicks, or in your case, if it was broken, right after the injury. She may get used to getting around. I have one chicken who has severely curled toes from birth that I didn't notice at first, and she gets around fine. You might want to post a picture here of her foot in case anyone else has a suggestion.
