Hello! I have a nearly 7-year-old hen (BLR Wyandotte) who has a deep cut in her spur right where it joins the leg. I think maybe she caught and tore it on something. I have her in my bathroom, and have cleaned it with peroxide/Vetericyn, put on antibiotic ointment, and bandaged it with gauze/vetwrap. But the cut is so deep, I have no idea if this will heal.
Can I take her to a vet and have the spur completely removed? Will it fall off on its own? I don't want to put her back outside and risk a serious infection. She's my last hen from my original flock. She's a jerk, but I want to do my best for her.
