Hen with dirty vent..What is it?! *Pic*

My friends sebright,Robin has a dirty vent area that really stinks. It seems to be poo on it.

She's acting normal,and not showing any sign of being hurt by it. What's the matter with her? Should she medicate it or just take it off? If so,how long does the medication have to be on her? Do you think that it is something egg related or not?

is that a small prolaspe i'm seeing? the picture isn't clear so it's hard to tell, but if not a prolaspe then soak her in some nice warm water, wash her vent area with soap and water then dry her real good so as not to chill. [hens like to soak by the way] after you have her clean and dry trim her feathers around the area, not down to the skin but enough that poop and what have you won't stick as bad, do you know when was the last time she laid an egg? also if it's smelly it could be yeast infection. which can be treated. if it's a prolaspe it also needs to be cleaned up and then either treated with honey or a paste made with sugar and water and put on it to help shrink the tissue so it will go back in, or pushed back in. I'll find some links for ya and be back.

just looked up vent gleet thats what yeast infection in chickens is called, it is smelly so that could be it. but heres one link
