Hi there. I have a hen about 3 yrs old that is walking with her tail tucked under and laying down a lot. I've checked and don't believe she's egg bound. She is eating and drinking and acting normal except for the tail. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?
Thank you for any info.

Welcome To BYC

Can you take her to a vet?

Walking with the tail tucked down in a 3yr old hen reminds me of symptoms of internal laying/reproductive disorders like Egg Yolk Peritonitis, Salpingitis, Ascites, cancer or tumors. Any of these can cause difficulty walking (penguin stance), loss of appetite, weight loss, difficulty breathing, etc.

Feel her abdomen to see of it's bloated, hard or fluid filled. Offer her some poultry vitamins and extra protein like egg or tuna. If you have a vet that can perform a fecal float to rule out Cocci or worms that would be a good idea.

Keep us posted.
