I was just out checking on my hens, it's -1°F outside, and I noticed that my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte has an extremely large mass of waste on her bloomers. She seems to be getting around fine -she was scratching and eating just as fast as her sisters, though she was shivering slightly every once in a while. I'm afraid that she might have Vent Gleet -though I don't know very much about it....I know something should be done, I don't want to loose her to the cold; but, what do I need to do? Should I just wait until tomorrow when the temperature is supposed to get up to 22°F, or should I do something now?

Here's the pictures of her:

She's in the middle. She doesn't look too bad, just a little puffed up.

Here's her rear from the side. It is frozen near the bottom.

Here she is from the back.

Anything helps!

I would pick off the clumps of poo, and trim off excess feathers that may be causing poo to stick. Don't bathe her in the cold weather. Get some Probios Powder to put in her water 2-3days a week to give her Probiotics. Also, worm her with Valbazen or Safeguard, and repeat in 10 days.

Agreed, we have had to trim stuck poo from one of ours. I would just have someone hold her and *ick* start cutting the clumps out til you've got her cleaned up. No water. Not only is it too cold, I think it would just make a mess.
