Good morning from Texas!

You are doing all the right things.

Yes, start soaking today. I would try to remove the scab at this point and see if anything "voluntarily" comes out of the wound with just a little squeeze after soaking. The foot is pretty swollen, so you might be surprised at what is ready to come out. After you do that, then spray liberally with the cholohexadine spray and allow that to dry. Then put the drawing salve on the open wound, place a gauze covering over that (it will keep the salve in place) and wrap the foot, being careful not to get it too tight. I have seen people wrap the foot so tight, it cuts off circulation and the foot dies.

The 8th is a just over a week away and you should have seen some pretty good results by then from the drawing salve. Wrapping the wound and leaving for 5 days should be fine as long as the wrap is not too tight.

Where are you that you cannot get antibiotic ointment (ointment is better than cream as it keeps its moisture longer) OTC? I think, even in Canada, you can get polysporin OTC. It doesn't necessarily have to be 3x ointment, it is just super available to us in the US and is why is it so often recommended.

Good luck with your gal and keep us posted on the progress.

Thank you MariaMac from Texas.
I have not made myself clear, the spray is iodine which I have noticed is not for use on open wounds. The chlorohexadine is in the germolene cream. I can't get antibiotics from the farm suppliers and the vet will only sell me some if I take her in for consultation at nearly £70 (over $90). A friend has found a very old tin of terramycin spray (purple spray we used for sheep) and the triple antibiotic ointment (https://ebay.us/m/vNGD0d) should arrive between Monday and Wednesday.
I will get the vet wrap and drawing salve today and hopefully some antibacterial spray to make a start tomorrow morning.
Thank you very much for the guidance.
Richard.

I didn't say but you probably guessed I'm from England where we are more regulated than you are.

Hello Again.

I guessed England by the reference to pounds. Sad the regulate everything so tightly. They are trying to do the same in the USA.

The epsom salt baths will help in the disinfecting. You can also make your own saline rinse - 1/2 tsp non-iodine salt to 8oz boiled water. This will also disinfect if you don't have time for an epsom soak.

In all my bumble situations, I usually dispense with the soaks once the salve/antibiotic start to work. At this point, I simple spray the wound, dry then dress it. A simple saline solution in a spray bottle will work for this. The goal is to clean the wound of any debris that may have gotten into the bandage before redressing.

Also, on your daily dressings, you should be able to see if the wound needs a good squeezing before you put the bandage back on.

Hope she is feeling better quickly!

Edit: I would also stick with the drawing save for a few days to give it a chance to pull that infection out before I start with the antibiotic ointment.

Thank you again.
I'll have a go tomorrow when the drawing salve arrives. This is the stuff I've bought https://amzn.eu/d/5yiquYK I hope it's the right stuff. I guess I just put some salve on a dressing, place I against the hole and apply the vet wrap? I'll have another look at some of the videos.
Thank you for all the support.
Richard.

Perfect. I have always put the salve on the hole and leave a pretty good blob on the foot. This way when it gets mushed down, there will still be plenty to go to work.

Again, the biggest issue is to make sure the vet wrap is not on too tight. You don't want to cut circulation off. She should be able to freely move her toes, etc.

Do watch some videos to get ideas on how to wrap the foot. Some use a single length of wrap, some use multiple pieces. Whatever you feel comfortable with.

Good luck and I hope she makes a quick and full recovery. Keep up updated. :)

The other thing I would say is if you have the antibiotic ointment and other supplies, I would use that now and then switch to the drawing salve when it comes. In other words I wouldn't wait on something if I have another option to start with.

Thank you. This support is brilliant.
All I have at the moment is antibacterial spray, antiseptic cream, 1 1/2 inch square dressings and the vet wrap. The salve is arriving later and the antibiotic ointment is next week. I will be probably leave it till the salve comes if it's not too late.
If it looks like the salve isn't here by this afternoon I'll press ahead with just the germolene antiseptic cream.
Thanks again.

I think I would do an epsom salt bath, then dress it with your antiseptic cream. It can only help - anything to make it clean and start the softening process is better than nothing. Then when you get the salve, I would use that on the next scheduled dressing day.

Good luck!
