I have a stinky chicken running around with her butt hanging out and a white discharge all over her hiney. It smells nasty. Her poop is pretty dark almost black (not racist). I put diatomaceous earth in their food regularly, once every couple months or so. I have put apple cider vinegar in their water this week. I bathed the chicken in epsom salts and tried to push her butthole back in several times, when she breathes it justs pops back out. I have been spraying her hiney with veterycin and/or foot powder. She has had a sick butt for 2 or 3 weeks now. What do I do? Is there a greater antibiotic for sale at Big R or Tractors that I can get? Should I execute her like a tyrannical antagonist and hang her in the gallows? She has pretty feathers they are black (not racist) and they sparkle like a rainbow.

Ohh she did eat some latex paint a couple weeks ago... that may have been the cause of this mishap!

Ok no expert here ! Put coconut oil on her vent you can't let it dry out. Push it in and just chill with her for awhile in your lap. Give her a quarter tablet of tums for now. Can you tell us more? Photos? How old? How long she has been laying ? what feed you use? Do you give oyster shells? Crushed egg shells?

End her suffering if you've been trying to help her for weeks.

What do you feed her besides paint?

The pictures are included in the post. We feed them chicken feed from the 50lb bags and pretty much all of our scraps... rice, bread, noodles, oats, chips, popcorn, hamburger helper, strawberries, vegetables... everything. I don't supplement calcium usually with all the other foods they eat. She is maybe 3 or 4 years old been laying for 2 or 3 years. She has always been the shy one of the group and eats last.

Does the prolapse keep popping back out when I push it in because it is so swollen? I thought she would have passed the paint and any other blockage out by now, so maybe there is another problem like worms or something...

Keep the prolapse moist with an anti-inflammatory cream.

Sometimes a prolapse cannot be fixed and the hen needs to be put out of her misery.
The prolapse and the poop being expelled really do not match - are you certain she's pooping out something that large?

If you are not interested in giving information to help this hen or are spamming the ER forum - please be kind and consider that you are taking up people's time and there are others waiting for assistance as well. Go spam a chat thread not this one.
