Yesterday I saw that one of my hens had prolapsed, so I immediately logged on and got some info. I tried honey after washing her as well as I could and clipped her feathers around the area. I tried to gently put honey all around and push it back in but it just came bulging back out. Did the same thing today, but it just isnt getting any better. She's such a good hen, a red sexlink (or star) and she has always laid the hugest eggs. I love her and dont want her to suffer. Should I keep trying to "doctor" her or what? How long does it take for the honey to work? I think I'll call the vet tomorrow... oh and Im putting cider vinegar in her water.

when this happen to one of our hens we used Preperation H and it took a few days of treatment before she came a round

When this happened to one of my hens, my vet said to soak her bottom in warm water with some sugar and epsom salts in it. Then use vaseline or KY and gently push the prolapse back in. You may have to do this several times a day. The Prep H will help, also. But more important is to get her into a dark place, maybe crate her in your house or a shed or garage. You want her to stop laying to give the prolapse a chance to heal. i would give it at least a couple days. If the prolapse won't stay in, you can have your vet do a stitch inside to hold it in.

Thank you all so much. I kept her separate so the others wouldn't pester her. She really doesn't act too sick, she's eating and drinking.
I did call the vet and he said she could be stitched, but more often than not it'd happen again. Going out right now to "doctor" again, I just don't want her to suffer or be in pain, don't know when to give up, but you all have given me hope again!
