Hello... I am looking for an alternative treatment for my hens sinus canker, metronidazole works well but I don't want to cause resistance so I need an alternative to switch off as she seems to have a outbreak about every 3 - 4weeks or so.

Just for your information, birds with canker are carriers for life. Stress will cause it to emerge again.
An alternate treatment other than Metronidazole is Acidified Copper Sulfate. Dosage is 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water for 3 days once a month to keep it in check. Use a plastic waterer and do not overdose. Here's where you can buy it:

Thank you for the quick response I do know she is a carrier for life and stress is what's causing the outbreaks. I do have acitified copper sulfate but wasn't sure if it's ok to use around cats. My barn cats have a tendency to drink from the chicken waterers. Do you know if it will hurt the cats?

Also wondering if it's ok to use rubber bowls for the acitified copper sulfate water... Being winter time in the north we use the rubber bowls as the water has a tendency to freeze.

It doesn't seem like the acitified copper sulfate water is helping. Does anybody know if Nystatin might help and dosing? All I've seen for dosing on that says to sprinkle on the feed but Is there a way to give directly to the chicken so we know she's getting the amount she needs?

Does anybody know Nystatin dose... otherwise I'm going to have to give her the metronidazole again.
