My apologies, but I don't have pictures at this moment; will post some tomorrow.
The other day my barred rock hen's legs and feet were patchy red and warm. I treated with vaseline, thinking it might be mites.
A couple days later they were very hot and more red. She seemed very uncomfortable setting and began to rest on her keel. Yesterday, after reading others' comments and thinking it was strep (bumblefoot without the plug scab; she has not been outside, but on shavings), I soaked up to the hocks in warm water for about 5 minutes. I then applied Ichthammol (20% salve) and loosely wrapped with vetwrap, both legs and feet.
This afternoon I found she had pulled away some of the toe wrappings. The toes were way less red than they had been, which is good. The legs however, which had stayed wrapped, had increased swelling and were red and still very hot. She is not standing for any length of time and is still resting on her keel. I re-salved both legs and feet, and rubbed in well toes, foot pads, and legs; I did not wrap. She is very drowsy, has not eaten much, and only pecks at a few bits of feed. I mixed some probiotic in her feed which I fed her by hand.
I just lost my entire flock of 6 yeseray to a coyote - in daylight; I don't think I could stand losing this little girl as well now. Does anybody have any recommendations?
