Has anyone else seen this happen? I have a hen that has spurs that are about a half inch or so long. I see "buttons" on the legs of other hens but this hen does have actual spurs! They are Ameriacana/Rhode Island red mixed chickens.

How old is she? The original hen. Some have been known to develop them later in life. My Betty grew hers at about 2.5 yo and she is definitely a hen.

Yes, I am sure she is a girl. The reason I noticed the spurs to begin with was I had to "cage" her for a few days because she was "brooding." She is about 2-3 years old. Probably one of the remaining original chickens that I started with. Maybe the spurs start developing once the egg laying slows down? I don't know....just thought it was odd. Did notice yesterday that another hen's "buttons" were more pronounced. Again, she is one of the older of the flock.
