Looking for advice on how to help my hen. She’s an ISA Brown. She is 2 1/2 years old. She was having a hard molt, but was starting to get better. she’s kind of thin but she was eating and drinking. Today I can’t get her to eat or drink and she’s having watery yellow ish diarrhea. She’s extremely weak and lethargic.

The yellow urates looks very abnormal and is concerning. It could mean that she is suffering from a reproductive infection or disorder that is affecting her liver. I don’t see any dark stool in the dropping. Is she eating or drinking at all? Is her lower belly below her vent enlarged? Since she is thinner and refusing to eat, she might have cancer or salpingitis. I would give her some electrolytes, fluids and some scrambled egg and watery chicken feed. Try offering food right up to her beak. Molting is a time when we can see an illness develop. Let us know how she gets along. If you should lose her I would either have your state vet do a necropsy, or do one at home with pictures posted here.

Thanks for replying. My poor chickie passed away. I’ll check into necropsy.

I am sorry that she did not make it, but she is not suffering. You can do a home necropsy if the state vet costs too much. Here is a list of state vets including yours:

I had done a few, and sometimes by opening the abdominal cavity, I have seen the yellow fluid from water belly, fatty liver disease, cancer, and egg yolk peritonitis or salpingitis. If you do one, take pictures to post here for opinions. Here is a video of a KY extension vet necropsy, and there are others, but this one has the organs labeled:
